Rebuilding A Lost Station and Park

GHS is currently working with the Village of Glencoe and the Glencoe Park District on a plan for the reconstruction of the demolished Wright-designed Waiting Station that once served the North Shore Electric Line and re-development of the adjacent park that was once designed by noted landscape architect, Jens Jensen.

A Legacy To Wright, Jensen and Booth

One of the highlights of the Ravine Bluffs Centennial Celebration is a plan to re-build the Wright-designed Station, originally located just north of Maple Hill Road, which once served the North Shore Electric Line.  The Green Bay Trail has replaced the rail bed and the reconstructed station would be an invaluable rest stop and educational resource for our village.

Immediately to the East of the rebuilt station are the remnants of a park, planned by Jensen, which would be combined with the Station and rebuilt in the style and spirit of this beloved American conservationist.

Together, the Station and the Park will create an educational and recreational jewel for our village, commemorating the centennial of an historic community treasure and providing a living tribute to the work of Wright, Jensen and Sherman Booth, who was also one of the founders of the Glencoe Park District.
